Abstract : Herein, the acylation reaction using benzoyl chloride catalyzed by ZnO supported on alumina (ZnO/Al2O3) is described. The catalyst was characterized by UV-DRS and SEM. ZnO/Al2O3is found to be efficient for the benzoylation of alcohols and phenols at room temperature under solvent free conditions. The catalyst can be effectively used up to four cycles.
